In order to maintain optimum health you need to do 2 simple things. Exercise, and eat right. That’s all there is to it.
If you choose not to do these things you can be prepared to watch your health fall severely at some point in time. Our bodies are no different than machines in factories, except a lot more complex. If you dont take care of a machine, it will break down into catastrophic failure. Yes you may be able to throw a fix in here or a fix in there, but ultimately, if you take good care of it you will get a lot better use out of it.
A friend of mine forwarded me an article that I just thought was truly amazing. Basically it said that we can either choose to exercise now or we can choose cardio therapy later. The first one being something that we choose to do, the second one being something we are forced to do by cariac therapists after heart attacks. It was really inspiring.
For a very long stretch of my life I never understood that exercise was important. It always seemed to me that you exercised if you wanted to get buff or you wanted to lose weight, but other than that, it had no value.
Actually, now that I think about it, I’m coming to either 1 of 2 conclusions… either 1. things are not stressed to us very much when we are taught things in schools or 2. I’m just a plain idiot. There are so many things that I never understood when I was younger, and I’m sure there are even more things that I dont know that I dont understand now. But now I do understand that exercising and working out isnt just for being buff or losing weight, or looking good. It is needed for general health and well being. It is NEEDED for general health and well being. It is needed for GENERAL HEALTH AND WELL BEING.
Going hand in hand with exercising is eating right. I never thought I’d be writing and article like this, trust me. My favorite and only real food group was the fast food group.
Admissions of guilt: In the past I have gotten a sack of 10 white castles for myself. I have eaten an entire whole pizza by myself. I have gotten a chicken sandwich and a whopper for myself. My nutrition was horrible, and I would eat a lot. I was able to eat so much, that I often ordered less than I actually wanted to eat, just because I was embarrassed to order how much I wanted. It is a miracle that on the high side I only weighed 250.
I could go in to thousands of reasons why I did those things, but when it comes right down to it, I can tell you that I didnt think they were that harmful. Even when I got over 200, I kept thinking, oh its not that much, 210, Oh well I’ll diet, 220, and so on and on.
For me, the thing about putting weight on, it was gradual, it wasnt like I really noticed I was putting it on, and I didnt think that the foods I was eating were that bad. I assume a lot of people feel the same way.
Now my eyes have been opened wide. Now I realize so much. How much the foods we ingest effect our bodies, what we are eating. In 20 years the obesity levels have tripled. That screams that there is a problem. Are we going to choose to ignore it? Sweep it under the rug like a dead bloated mouse, that even though it’s under the rug still creates a noticeable bump?
2 things are mandatory, exercising and eating right. I could go on for more, but I will keep it that simple now. Please, make them a normal part of your life.
