I’ve been trying out some of the workouts for P90X2 getting ready for our big workout group to start, and I figured I’d give a bit of a review of the new workouts.
The first workout I did was Plyocide. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was beyond excited. The first thing I noticed was the time. I think it starts out with about 55 minutes, and I’m pretty sure Plyometrics started out at 58 or 59.
The next thing was the warm up. Plyometrics starts out with some stretching, squats, and lunges like crazy. Plyocide on the other hand was some stretching, and that in itself was totally different. They were new, but also seemed more, hmmm, lacking the word. I’d like to say mature. I think that is the best way I can describe it. Plyocide also included a good deal of foam roller warm up, which I liked. It wasnt as directed, more of a “hit the spots that you need to hit” kind of thing.
Then the start time. I really noticed that because I was thinking, hey, this is less of a work out than the old Plyo (that thought only lasted a minute). There was no explanation of “we’ll do 4 moves, each will be 30 seconds unless otherwise indicated”. We started the work out and wow, right from the word go it was intense. Much closer to Insanity than the old Plyo, but still different at the same time.
I dont have the total moves list, since I’ve only done it once so far, maybe I’ll update a bit later, but one of the moves was Killer Katherine Lunges. Good wording, because it’s lunges, with an 8 pound medicine ball going up and over your head to the other side of your body with every lunge, and they move quickly.
I liked how often the medicine balls were used. And how the new moves were set up. The cast was great, and Tony Horton was great of course. I went in a bit skeptical. I was excited, but I’ve been so used to P90X for so long that part of me wondered if P90X2 could really be as good as P90X. Well, as far as Plyocide goes, it really was amazing and I cant wait to get more in to it!
