I was reading a book the other day called “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”

If you’re a reader, or even if you aren’t, I highly recommend this book!  I’m not even very far in to it, but what I have read has been incredible.

By now you might be checking the address link and making sure you’re at the right website, or just wondering if I’ve forgotten that this is a fitness blog, but nope, I am going somewhere with this.

In the Preface, there is talk about what we do as a culture, and the basic principles that we are missing as a culture. One of the things they brought up was health and it just really rocked me with this very simple look at life.

  • Culturally our perspective is to maintain our lifestyles, when problems arise, we use medicines and surgeries to correct problems
  • The principle that we are missing is that our bodies take care of themselves (no need for medicines and surgeries) if we TAKE CARE OF THEM PROPERLY.

Medicate first, surgery first.

Maybe that is a little too mean, maybe it’s not the case.  I’ve heard relatives and friends say all the time “The Dr. told me to change my diet”, or “The Dr. told me I need to exercise”

So maybe I can’t blame it as much on the medical industry. That’s too easy.

We need to step up ourselves and make the positive decisions BEFORE we go to the Dr. and they tell us to do the things we should have been doing in the first place?

Our bodies were designed to operate certain ways, and it’s time we started treating them like that. I wonder exactly where we could go, if we eliminated 1/2 of all the research going on, and were able to devote it to other areas? Just a thought.
