RevAbs: Power Intervals 2

RevAbs Power Interval 2 is an amazing work out that will leave your muscles spent, breath gone, and sweating galore. It is for sure one of my favorites in the RevAbs series.

It starts out with a usual warm up, some Capoeira moves and some jumping jacks and stretches. It’s a nice little warm up.

Right after the warm up it hits hard.

24 alternating forward lunges, with weight chopping and stopping to each side respectively.

12 Weighted side squats with opposite leg lift

Speed Skaters- dashing back and forth 8 times, then dropping really low and jumping up on each side, 8 times, this is repeated twice

Sprawls- approximately 15 sprawl moves, dropping down and kicking your legs out, going down to the ground, then hopping back up.  Over and over again

Speed Skaters-  Yep, again, this time its “Reved up” Harder and higher.

Thats the end of round 1

There are a total of 3 rounds all together, both with increasing intensity and increasing speed. By the time you get done with it you will for sure be drenched and feel like you’ve just gotten an amazing work out.

Like all Beachbody workouts, each move can be modified or adjusted so that if you can not keep up, you can still be doing something.

RevAbs vs. P90X: Who would win?

The clear answer to who would win is you, no matter which you choose, but I thought it would be fair to compare and contrast them for you.  I’ve got about 4 weeks left RevAbs, and I can say a few things about each series.

P90X Pros:

  • Heavy resistance training where you push to muscle failure each time
  • It has a great balance with types of work outs
  • Variety which creates muscle confusion to prevent plateauing
  • Includes Resistance, Cardio, and Yoga

RevAbs Pros:

  • Greater cardio work and heavier intervals
  • Capoeira style moves (a type of martial art)
  • More synergistic in nature, working the entire body at once
  • Abcentric…. every exercise pushes the abs and the core in some way

Both exercise routines are fantastic. It would depend on what your goal is as to which I would suggest.

If your goal is to lose weight, tighten up your abs and core, and get real lean, I would say go with RevAbs.

If your goal is to bulk up or get really toned, along with having a great balance of a fitness routine, I would suggest going with P90X.

Ultimately, I believe that the routines compliment each other.   Personally, when I get done, I’m going to start a couple of Tony Horton’s One on Ones, and mix them in with RevAbs, and some from P90X.  The great thing about Beachbody routines is that when you build up several work outs, you can mix and match them and continue to create new and interesting work outs from them.
