Snack time

Surprise! Food tastes good!

Best P90X

I’ve been hitting the food posts pretty hard here recently.  Cool by me, there’s been all sorts of fun stuff I’ve been learning and getting in to.

I’ll break this down in to 3 different and fun parts.  (have fun… I command you) ((I wish I had a hypnotoad, that would make life great! Well, then I would need to go in to the tangent of us actually getting what we want all the time is not good for us, and since this is a fitness/exercise/nutrition/some other stuff blog, it’s just not the time or space)) (((gosh, if I ever get married dont you feel bad for my future wife trying to keep up with my rampant track of mind jumping?)))

My surprise of the day

I love me some Chipotle. No doubt about that one at all. I’ve argued the fact that it is good for you. I applaud the efforts they make to use organic food, and on top of that, it’s just freaking good. But I do have to admit, while really tightening down I’ve cut Chipotle out. I would typically get-

  • Chicken
  • Rice
  • Black beans
  • Corn salsa
  • Sour Cream
  • and Cheese

in a burrito.  This came up to close to 1000 calories.  I had thought about leaving some stuff out before, but the idea just seemed bad, cause it was soooo yummy! Well, today someone offered to buy me lunch at Chipotle. Sooooo, yep, I did it! But this is what I got… in a bowl, no tortilla

  • Chicken
  • Rice
  • Black Beans
  • Corn Salsa

It came up to 520 calories, which was great!  Also, very high in fiber and protein, but still low in fat. When I bit in, it was a HUGE surprise!

I actually liked the taste better! Without everything being covered with sour cream, I could taste everything together.  Everything seemed to have more taste to it. I wasnt losing anything by not putting cheese and sour cream on, I was actually gaining taste! The only thing I was losing was fat and calories.

Next!

What to eat

Figs!! I’m typically not a fan of dried fruit. I would say to stay away from it, but wow, I ran across some at the store and decided to buy them. The label is great! High fiber, good protein, no bad stuff. Well, they do have quite a bit of sugar (makes them taste almost like candy!), which is why I say to stay away from dried fruit. But if you stick to the serving suggestion for a snack… go for it! Plus it will help to satisfy a little bit of sweet in your day.

They look different, but give them a try!

and lastly…

What not to eat (or drink)

I realize this is a gimic by a manufacturer… but… no!  Dont get it, dont drink it, bad, stay away.  I will hunt you down (if you ever stop running around long enough). This is not something you want to drink or to make part of a healthy lifestyle….

Ok, that’s it for today.

Shakeology Ingredients: Sacha Inchi

sachainchi1

Since I’ve been drinking Shakeology for so long now, and I love sharing it with people, I thought I would post about some of the ingredients in it. Here is an excerpt from Wiki on Sacha Inchi. The great thing is that not only is it an amazing plant, but Beachbody is helping to grow the local Peru economy by creating jobs.

Plukenetia volubilis, commonly known as Sacha Inchi, Sacha Peanut, Mountain Peanut or Inca-Peanut, is a perennial plant with somewhat hairy leaves, in the Euphorbiaceae. It is native to the Amazon Rainforest, where it has been cultivated by indigenous people for centuries, and will grow in warm climates up to altitudes of 1,700 meters (5,500 feet) as long as there continued availability of water and good drainage. It grows better in acidic soils, frank and alluvial flats near rivers.

The plant reaches a height of 2 m (6′ 6″), with alternate, heart shaped, serrated leaves, 10 to 12 cm long (4″-4.7″) and 8 to 10 cm (3.1-3.9″) wide, that have petioles 2–6 cm (0.8-2.3″) long. It flowers five months after being planted, and bears seeds around the eighth month. The male flowers are small, white, and arranged in clusters. Two female flowers are located at the base of the inflorescence.

The fruits are capsules of 3 to 5 cm in diameter with 4 to 7 points, are green and ripen blackish brown. It usually consists of four lobes, but some may have up to seven. Inside are the seeds, oval, dark-brown, 1.5 to 2 cm in diameter and 45 to 100 grams of weight. The cotyledons are open, similar to those of almonds, and covered with a whitish film.

The seeds of Inchi have high protein (27%) and oil (35 – 60%) content. Its oil is one of the largest plant sources of the Omega family of fatty acids, an essential for human life. It contains Omega 3 (48%), Omega 6 (36%), Omega 9 (9%), and protein (27%). They are also rich in iodine and vitamin A and vitamin E.

Modern uses

Sacha Inchi oil production is increasing in the Peruvian Amazon and is gaining international recognition for its taste and health properties. In June 2007, Sacha Inchi oil won the Médaille d’or (Gold Medal) at the AVPA Specialty Foods Commodities competition. Sacha Inchi has been called a super food because of its high content of essential fatty acids. The oil has a mild flavour, not bitter, with a nutty finish. With new research emphasizing the health benefits of Omega fatty acids, interest in sustainable sources of Omega is increasing. Sacha Inchi oil is used in vegetarian diets to provide a plant source for Omega-3 fatty acids.
