Nutrition: What to eat, or, what I eat

Nutrition is very important as I have come to understand it. Apparently eating an entire large pizza by oneself is not a good thing and leads to even worse things. So as I have been on this fitness journey I have learned what to eat on a diet, or really, what to eat for better nutrition. Now I am not a nutritionist, I only know what works for me, and what I havent had to barf from the taste. I hear vomit is not good for ones teeth, so I do try to shy away from it. So here are some foods that I have found to both taste good and work well with with the fitness journey I’m on.

Carrots, raw, just a good snap, they are crispy and tasty
Nature Valley crunchy granola bars
Apples
Grapes and a great couch snack!
Almonds, whole and raw, Blue Diamond sells big bags of them
Pistachios, oh my… new addiction
Lean pockets. ok, I realize there are nutritionists out there that would throw things at me, but look, as of this date I am a bachelor, and they are easy to cook
Fiber One clusters cereal, the commercials arent jokes, it doesnt taste like cardboard, pretty good actually, and ummm, helps with certain processes
P900X Results and recovery shake. Perfect. Has protein, simple and complex carbs for recovery, a bit of creatine, along with other great ingredients
Shakeology shake. 70 great ingredients, and tastes incredible
Wheat english muffins and peanut butter or I cant believe it’s not butter
Soy chocolate milk, you wouldnt believe how good that stuff is
Marie Calendars steamer meals, good stuff!
Tuna salad on wheat bread
Chicken
Chipotle! Chicken, rice, and black beans baby
Hormels White Chicken Chili
Soups
Chicken salad

I could keep going on and on I’m sure. The point is, there is a ton of food out there that you can try, and you WILL like some of it. For every food that you get rid of, you need to find a food to replace it. A little at a time, just work at finding good foods that you can eat and stick with, thats the important part. And there are even cheat days, because you do need to fluctuate your calories! But if you work at finding foods you enjoy, I promise you that you will find them! Have a weight loss workout plan! It’s all part of your at home fitness. No matter where you work out, nutrition needs to be part of your life and you need to practice it everywhere, including at home!

Rambling update

So, I’ve been going pretty strong now for a while.  I’ve been taking Shakeology for 2 months.  I’ve also really stepped up my nutrition and my work outs.

For almost a month now I have had a diet of granola, nuts, seeds, apples, pineapple, salads, chicken,  almond milk, Shakeology, and whey protein.  I decided to try this when I read this rant of Tony Hortons.  Admittedly, I didnt think I would be able to keep it up very long, but I feel absolutely incredible, and I have gotten really used to and really get hungry for the new foods.  I am going to be on the search for more foods and recipes to try out to combine different things though.  Need to add to my collection!  One thing I know for sure is I wish I knew how to make the tuna salad that Whole Foods makes.  I’ve looked for the recipes several times only to find… nothing!  sigh.

The other big plus is that I’ve taken my workouts to a knew level.  Instead of just following the P90X program (which is great, and I think if you are doing it you should do it once straight through, there is so much to learn in the process), I’ve been able to really read and learn my body.  I can tell when I’m starting to get used to a certain routine like Chest and Back and so on.  This last time I did P90X+ for 6 weeks, then I did a cardio week, then switched to the first part of P90X, then moved to the second part, now I’m moving to the 1st part of P90X+ again.  I’ve ordered RevAbs, and as soon as that gets here, I am going do that for 3 weeks, then start over again.

The main thing that impresses me is how I’ve learned to read my body.  I spent a lot of time in the gym about 6 years ago, and got burnt out because after about 6 weeks I felt it wasnt doing anything, so I quit.  Now, I can really tell what I need to do and the directions I need to head.  I couldnt do it without Beachbody though.  It’s like having a little stockpile of weaponry.  I have different sets of workout routines available whenever I want, and I can mix and match them to whatever my body is needing.

Ok, so this was a bit of a ramble, but you’re going to end up having that from time to time.

An Apple a Day

red

Do you ever find yourself asking yourself something?  Maybe something a bit odd like… What should I eat?  or What is healthy to eat?

First off, stop talking to yourself.  You dont want to become one of those strange people who end up chit chatting with themselves while they are walking down the street (without a blue tooth device).  Just stop talking and READ.

Number one thing I can recommend to you is apples.  If you’ve been reading for a bit, you know that I have really straightened up on my food intake.  For the last 10 days I have been hitting only fruits, nuts, veggies, and things of that nature.  I have learned quite a bit, and without a doubt one thing you NEED is apples.

Fact one : You Dont Get Enough Fiber

Look it up.  Unless you are just some sort of freak (health freak), you dont get enough fiber.  You should be getting anywhere from 25-40 grams a day.  The higher side for men, lower side for women.

A lot of your fiber comes from fruits and veggies!  (I was right, you dont get enough do you?)

Heres the breakdown on the beautiful apple!

Calories 81
Carbohydrate 21 grams
Dietary Fiber 4 grams
Soluble Fiber
Insoluble fiber
Calcium 10 mg
Phosphorus 10 mg
Iron .25 mg
Sodium 0.00 mg
Potassium 159 mg
Vitamin C 8 mg
Vitamin A 73 IU
Folate 4 mcg

Its a great fruit, and it contains 4 grams of fiber!  Two of these bad boys a day will both keep your stomach filled with good, nutritious food, but it will also increase your fiber intake!  Sold yet?
