I’ve braced myself for impact here as I say Weight Watcher wont work.

Before you get too riled up, yes Weight Watchers has helped many people lose weight, but the problem isn’t just losing weight. You must exercise. It’s a combination of exercise and nutrition that keeps us at our healthiest.

I dont have a problem with Weight Watchers. A far as I see it, they are providing a good service. People have successfully lost weight, and they have learned to think about nutrition more. That part I can really get going with. As opposed to diets that make you eat their food and other such silliness.

The problem is you lose lean muscle mass over time. It happens to everyone. When you lose lean muscle mass your metabolism goes down because lean muscle burns calories. So when your metabolism drops, you have to eat fewer calories. As this goes on you have to eat fewer and fewer calories.

Exercise plays such an important roll in the body. Not only to help keep lean muscle mass (and grow more), but also to keep your body running right.

Think of it this way. A car runs on gasoline.  The engine in the car is lubricated with oil, which helps make sure the engine runs smooth. You get that oil changed (hopefully) from time to time to get rid of all the sludgy build up, otherwise your engine will cease.

Your body’s fuel is food, hopefully you put good food in it.  The processes in your body are run by the oil. Exercise is what changes your oil and keeps your engine running fresh.

There are 2 parts to the equation. Exercise + Nutrition = Health

Sitting around the tv 5 hours a night, making your new snack of choice celery still isnt going to do your body a lot of good.  You were designed to move, and move you must.

This quote by Plato about sums it all up.

Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it.
