Working out at home

Working out at home

I’m no new kid on the block any more. I’ve been working out for a while now. I’m past the “will it stick” phase. I work out daily and I actually enjoy working out, and I take care of myself with what I eat as well. I am no expert, but I am going to keep on track and keep learning.

So, I wanted to take you on a bit of a journey that I went through…. ready?  Here we go!

Before I started working out:

I was lazy. I worked my 7:30-5 desk job. I smoked 2 packs a day, and if you’ve been following my blog, you’ve probably heard all of this before. The part I didnt tell you was about my thoughts and feelings on workout dvds. I thought they were lame. Real guys worked out at the gym, and I didnt have a weight problem, and I was in good shape.  Intro picture one….

This is me before P90X

This is me before P90X

At some point in time, after I was just plain sick of looking at terrible pictures of myself, I realized that I was terribly out of shape. I saw the P90X infomercial, and thought it was another rip off or scam.  But I was willing to do some digging, and desperation had probably kicked in a bit, so I ordered it.

Fast forward

This is what I can tell you without a doubt on working out at home. I’m just going to take you through some bullet points.

  • I gained knowledge, confidence, and experience working out at home
  • I was able to put some time in without spending money on a gym membership I didnt know if I’d use
  • I was able to work out any time, and had my shower right there
  • The DVDs helped me by showing me what to do, and giving me a pace to try to keep up with, it was like having a trainer there 100% of the time
  • The work outs were NOT easy. But they were done so that I could build my self up to them. I still cant keep pace with those guys, but I do better than I’ve ever done
  • Working out at home made me want to work out other places!  I go to yoga studios now, I go to gyms, I check out all sorts of different things!

When it comes down to it, I dont think that there is even a choice between working out at home or at a gym.  Home should be an absolute must, and the gym should be a luxury if you want it. Does that sound weird?  Why?

If you’re going to make fitness a serious part of your life. If it’s going to be second nature to you, then you should be doing it at home. Lets say you want to do cardio 4 days a week. Are you really going to pay for cardio classes for 4 days a week, on top of gym memberships? When you can crank out an hour at home? That just wouldnt make sense.

Let me put it like this. It would be like going to the movies every time you wanted to see something on the screen. Morning news… time to go to the movies!  Sitcom, movies time!  Late night program, Movies!

You dont do that.  You watch programming that you consider home worthy, and there are movies you consider worthy of going to the theater. Same difference.

Want a personal trainer? Same thing. You need to work out far more than the amount of time you can afford to pay a personal trainer. So where does that leave you? Beachbody makes all kinds of great work outs, that are intense! These arent cheesy workouts.  The days of sweatin to the oldies is gone. Hello the days of P90X, Insanity, and RevAbs. It’s the cool kids turn at bat and they just knocked one out of the ball park.
